Nose-/chin plastics

(Rhinoplasty)

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures for both men and women.

Cosmetic rhinoplasty can dramatically change the shape and appearance of your nose. It is therefore essential that you carefully communicate what you want to your surgeon at the initial consultation, and then try to find a balance between what you want and what the surgeon believes is possible, given your particular circumstances. The ultimate goal should be a proportionate nose that looks natural with the rest of your facial features.

Plastic surgeons essentially use two techniques to reshape the nose: either an open or closed procedure. The technique is usually chosen based on the patient's skin quality and desire, but naturally also on whether the surgeon has a general preference for one of the techniques. Open surgery leaves a tiny scar beneath the tip of the nose, between the nostrils.
The patient's nose is reduced, or in certain case built up, by adjusting the structure either by removing or adding bone and/or cartilage. The surgeon redrapes the skin and other soft tissue over the new framework.

The operation is carried out under general anesthesia combined with a local anesthetic, which means that the procedure is painless and you sleep the entire time. You can go home on the same day or the next day, depending on the type of surgery carried out.

After the operation you can expect some swelling and discoloration around your eyes. This is worst on the second to third day, and then gradually decreases. If your procedure involves the bone, you will wear a splint for a week and tape for another week. The sutures are usually removed after six days and you will already see a significant improvement at that time.
Take it easy for the first few days after surgery, and for the next few weeks you should avoid activities that increase your blood pressure such as swimming, jogging, or even bending down.
It takes six months to a year before your nose heals completely and takes on its new shape.

Rhinoplasty is a highly rewarding procedure with many satisfied patients.
