About liposuction of the abdomen, waist, or back at Victoriakliniken
A positive aspect of liposuction, especially for the abdomen, is that the removed fat cells cannot return, as fat cells do not regenerate—they only expand and shrink. This makes abdominal liposuction an effective method for targeted body contouring.
For those looking to enhance their abdominal area with liposuction, it’s important to know that younger individuals often have more elastic skin, which can contribute to better final results. The skin’s ability to retract after abdominal liposuction plays a crucial role in the overall outcome. That’s why understanding the expected results and being aware of the long-term effects on body shape is essential.

Quick facts about the procedure
Surgery time: Two hours
Time at the clinic: One overnight stay
Price: fr 65 000 SEK
Return to work: Two to three weeks
Before surgery
We recommend undergoing 2-4 LPG Endermologie treatments before surgery, as this stimulates and opens up the lymphatic channels, creating better healing conditions by allowing waste products after surgery to be transported away more effectively.
During the surgery
Liposuction begins with the injection of a fluid containing local anesthesia and adrenaline. The fat cells are then removed using gentle suction through small incisions, about 5 mm long, which leave nearly invisible scars. The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia, but smaller treatments can be done with local anesthesia.
In some cases, liposuction is combined with a lift, and drainage tubes may be needed to reduce swelling. Most patients leave the clinic the same day and can return to work within a few days.
After the surgery
During the first three weeks after abdominal liposuction, you should typically wear a compression garment both day and night. After that, it should be worn at night for an additional three weeks. For smaller procedures, such as arm liposuction, a compression sleeve may be sufficient. Follow-up visits usually take place within a week with your plastic surgeon at the clinic.
If you have gone home with drains, they are usually removed at that time. After about three weeks, we recommend LPG Endermologie treatments, as they stimulate and open up the lymphatic channels, promoting better healing by allowing post-surgical waste products to be removed more efficiently. This treatment is also beneficial for the lymphatic system in general, especially for those prone to lymphedema.
Results
Bruising may occur after abdominal liposuction but usually fades within a couple of weeks. Massaging the skin, maintaining a healthy diet, staying hydrated, and avoiding nicotine products can also speed up the healing process and ensure the best possible results. The results are generally long-lasting after the surgery. The final result will not be visible immediately. During the first 72 hours, your swelling will increase. After six weeks, most of your swelling will have been absorbed. Between three to six months after the surgery, the final shape will become visible, and after two years, your scar tissue will have softened.

FAQ about liposuction of the abdomen, waist, or back
What is liposuction and how does it work?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure in which excess fat is removed from specific areas such as the abdomen, waist, and back. A thin cannula is used to break down and suction out the fat cells, creating a more defined and proportionate body shape. The fat cells that are removed do not return.
Are you a suitable candidate for liposuction?
Liposuction is ideal for individuals who are close to their target weight but have stubborn fat deposits that don’t go away despite diet and exercise. It is not a weight loss method but a body contouring treatment.
Can liposuction be combined with other treatments?
Yes, many patients choose to combine liposuction with abdominoplasty to remove excess skin or with skin tightening treatments to improve the results. Consult your surgeon to find the best combination for you.
How long does recovery from liposuction take?
Most patients can return to lighter activities after a few days and to their normal routine within two weeks. Exercise should be avoided for about 4–6 weeks. You can expect swelling and bruising that gradually disappears over the weeks following the procedure.
How much does liposuction of the abdomen, waist, and back cost?
The price for liposuction varies depending on the extent of the treatment. At Victoriakliniken, prices start from 65,000 SEK. This includes the surgery, anesthesia, follow-up visits, and other necessary aftercare.
Will I have loose skin after liposuction?
The result depends on the skin’s elasticity. Younger patients or those with good skin quality typically have a better ability to tighten the skin after the procedure. If necessary, skin tightening treatments or abdominoplasty may be considered.
How soon can I see results?
Improvements are visible as soon as the swelling starts to subside, usually within a few weeks. The final result can be seen after 3–6 months when the body has fully healed.
Can liposuction help me get rid of cellulite?
Liposuction is not a treatment for cellulite, but it can improve body contours and reduce the appearance of unevenness. For specific cellulite treatments, consult the clinic.
Are there risks with liposuction?
As with all surgical procedures, there are risks, including infection, bruising, swelling, and unevenness. At Victoriakliniken, risks are minimized by using advanced techniques and careful care throughout the process.
