Liposuction of the thighs

Liposuction can be used to sculpt the thighs, creating a more defined and balanced silhouette.
This area is often difficult to refine through regular weight loss. However, liposuction should not be considered a weight-loss method.

About Liposuction for the Thighs

A positive factor is that fat that has been removed cannot return, as fat cells do not regenerate but only grow and shrink, making thigh liposuction an excellent method for localized treatment.

A younger person often has more elastic skin, which provides the best results. The degree to which the skin can retract after liposuction is crucial for the final outcome.

Before the surgery

Before surgery

Depending on the patient’s natural conditions, we discuss the various methods available to achieve the best results.

The plastic surgeon makes an assessment based on the amount of excess fat present and the quality of the patient’s skin. We also inform about the various techniques we use to optimize sculpting and how the procedure is performed.

We recommend undergoing 2-4 LPG Endermologie treatments before surgery, as this stimulates and opens up the lymphatic channels, creating better healing conditions by allowing waste products after surgery to be effectively removed.

During the surgery

During the surgery

The procedure begins with the injection of a solution containing local anesthesia and adrenaline, typically in the same volume as the fat to be removed. The fat cells are then suctioned out using negative pressure through small incisions, approximately 5 mm in length, where a thin tube is inserted. These incisions leave tiny, nearly invisible scars. In some cases, the procedure is combined with a lift to address the reduction in volume, and drainage tubes may be used to minimize fluid buildup and swelling.

At Victoriakliniken, the procedure is performed under anesthesia or local anesthesia, and you typically go home the same day. Most people feel well after just a few days following liposuction and can return to work.

After the surgery

After the surgery

During the first three weeks after thigh liposuction, you should typically wear a compression garment both day and night. After that, it should be worn at night for an additional three weeks. For a smaller liposuction procedure, such as arm liposuction, a support stocking may be sufficient.

Follow-up visits usually take place within a week with your plastic surgeon at the clinic. If you have gone home with drains, they are usually removed at that time.

After about three weeks, we recommend undergoing 8-10 LPG Endermologie treatments, as this stimulates and opens up the lymphatic channels, creating better healing conditions by allowing waste products after surgery to be transported away more effectively. This is also generally a good treatment for the lymphatic system, especially if you have a tendency toward lymphedema.

Results

Bruising may occur but usually disappears within a couple of weeks. Massaging the skin, maintaining a good diet, staying hydrated, and avoiding nicotine products also accelerate the healing process and ensure the best possible final result.

The results are generally long-lasting after the surgery. The final result will not be visible immediately. During the first 72 hours, your swelling will increase.

After six weeks, most of your swelling will have been absorbed. Between three to six months after the surgery, the final shape will become visible, and after two years, your scar tissue will have softened.

FAQ About Thigh Liposuction at Victoriakliniken
What is Thigh Liposuction?

Thigh liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes stubborn fat from the thighs and hips. It helps create a more defined and proportionate body shape—something that can often be difficult to achieve through diet and exercise alone.

Who Is a Suitable Candidate for Thigh Liposuction?

This procedure is best suited for individuals in good overall health, with good skin elasticity and realistic expectations. It’s important to remember that liposuction is not a weight-loss method but rather a body-contouring procedure.

How Is Thigh Liposuction Performed at Victoriakliniken?

First, local anesthesia or general anesthesia is administered. Small incisions are then made in the groin or behind the knees, through which a thin cannula is inserted. The cannula is used to loosen the fat cells, which are then suctioned out.

What Type of Anesthesia Is Used?

At Victoriakliniken, thigh liposuction is performed under either general anesthesia or local anesthesia.

What is the recovery time?

Most patients can return to light work within one to two weeks. However, it is important to avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks. You will need to wear a compression garment to minimize swelling and support the skin as it tightens.

What Are the Risks of Thigh Liposuction?

As with any surgical procedure, there are risks, including swelling, bruising, infection, and skin irregularities. At Victoriakliniken, every precaution is taken to minimize these risks and ensure a safe, smooth recovery.

How Long Do the Results Last?

The results of liposuction are generally long-lasting, as the removed fat cells do not regenerate. However, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential to preserve your results over time.

Are There Any Restrictions After the Surgery?

Yes, there are certain restrictions, such as avoiding strenuous activities, sun exposure, and smoking. You will receive detailed instructions during your consultation and after the procedure to ensure optimal healing and results.
