Regarding surgery for protruding ears.
An otoplasty is a common procedure for you who wish to have your ears operated on. It is usually performed under local anesthesia, and the scars are placed very discreetly behind the ears, making them virtually impossible to see.
The results are clear, and many notice a significant difference in their protruding ears before and after the procedure. For children, protruding ears sometimes resolve naturally, but for adults, an otoplasty may be the best solution.
The patient goes home on the same day as the surgery. In some cases, there is the possibility of a cost-free operation depending on individual needs and the regional healthcare regulations.
Quick facts about the procedure
Surgery time: 1 hour
Time at the clinic: 3 hours
Price: fr 45 000 SEK
Back to work: After one week.
Before the surgery
Depending on the patient’s natural conditions, we discuss and inform about different ways to achieve the best result.
The assessment is made based on the appearance and placement of the ears, as well as the amount of skin and cartilage that needs to be removed.
We also explain different techniques and how the procedure is carried out.
During surgery
During an otoplasty, skin and cartilage are removed. Depending on the desired outcome, the cartilage is reshaped for protruding ears and stabilized with bolster stitches, which are removed after three days.
When reducing size, skin and excess cartilage are typically removed. Scars are always placed discreetly.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, ensuring that you remain pain-free throughout and can go home the same day.
Efter operationen
During the first few days, the incisions will feel tight and pull, but you will not have more pain than can be managed with mild pain relievers such as Alvedon.
You will be given the medications you need to take home. Follow-up visits typically occur after one week together with your plastic surgeon at the clinic. After the surgery, you usually get scars that are very discreet; often the scars fade nicely and become small, thin white lines.
