About the procedure
As we age, signs of reduced skin elasticity gradually appear, such as the lowering of the eyebrows, horizontal lines on the forehead, and vertical lines between the eyebrows. This not only creates an aesthetically less desirable look, often giving a harsher and more tired appearance, but also leads to functional issues, as people tend to raise their foreheads continuously to lift the eyebrows.
Before the surgery
Based on each patient’s unique characteristics, we discuss the different options available to achieve the best possible result. The assessment considers the facial appearance, skin quality, and amount of excess skin. We explain the various techniques and how the procedure is performed, as well as whether additional treatments may be needed to optimize the outcome to complement the lift with other facial procedures, such as a facelift or blepharoplasty, for an optimal result.
Technique
A brow lift is usually performed using keyhole surgery (endoscopic surgery), resulting in very small and nearly invisible scars within the hairline. During the procedure, the overactive muscles are corrected, and adjustments are made to the position of the eyebrows, as well as the skin and creases on the forehead. In some cases, a “coronal incision” is used— a longer incision along the top of the scalp—when a more comprehensive lift across the forehead is needed. No hair is shaved. Typically, the brows are lifted with temporary threads that dissolve within three to six weeks. This results in initially high-set eyebrows, which usually settle into position within about three weeks.
During the surgery
The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia, so you’ll be asleep and pain-free throughout. You’ll stay overnight at the clinic. In the first few days, you may feel some tightness and pulling in the sutures, but the discomfort is usually mild and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief, such as Alvedon. You’ll be provided with any necessary medications to take home.
After the surgery
Follow-up appointments are scheduled one and two weeks after surgery with your plastic surgeon at the clinic. Post-surgery, scars are typically very discreet and tend to fade beautifully into small, thin white lines.
Results
The final result will not be visible immediately. During the first 72 hours, you can expect some swelling, and initially, you may experience reduced sensation in your face. After about three weeks, most of the facial swelling will have significantly subsided. The final shape will become visible between three to six months after the surgery.
Complications
Like any surgery, there’s always a chance of complications with a facelift.
- In patients with reduced circulation, such as those with diabetes, smokers, or individuals with arteriosclerosis, there is a risk of slower healing. The wound heals but may leave an unsightly scar that might need correction.
- In rare cases, the nerves controlling the forehead’s muscle movements may be affected, likely due to swelling or tension on the nerves. If this occurs, it is usually a temporary issue, with recovery typically taking place within three to six months.
- Numbness along the incisions may occur immediately after surgery. This is usually temporary but may, in rare cases, become permanent. With a coronal incision, it is common for sensation in the scalp to be affected.
- Increased scar activity is an uncommon complication. After 6 months, scars are usually very difficult to see, as incisions are placed in hair-bearing areas or natural folds. In some cases, scars may widen, typically due to a combination of excessive skin tension and reduced elasticity and healing capacity in the scalp.
- Some people may notice hair loss around the scars. But the hair usually grows back within 6 months. This can be improved with PRP treatment.

Price
We have chosen not to have a fixed price list, as each patient is unique with individual needs. In most cases, it’s only during the consultation that we can determine, together with you, which procedure(s) will be best to achieve a beautiful final result. With us, in addition to the surgery cost, anesthesia, medications, follow-up visits, compression garments, and bras are included, as well as, in most cases, at least one overnight stay after the surgery.
In general, all prices are shown inclusive of VAT, as all procedures and treatments except those performed for medical reasons have been subject to VAT since the beginning of 2014. In cases where the price is shown exclusive of VAT, this is because these procedures are always performed on medical grounds. (Price below includes VAT)
