Many patients seek help for issues that affect both function and appearance, and one of the most common reasons is diastasis recti, or separation of the abdominal muscles. In combination with this, some also experience umbilical hernias, which was the case for one of our recent patients.
What Are Diastasis Recti and Umbilical Hernias?
Diastasis recti occurs when the abdominal muscles stretch and separate, often as a result of pregnancy, weight gain, or previous abdominal surgeries. If the gap between the abdominal muscles is greater than 2 cm, it is classified as diastasis recti. This can lead to a protruding or weak stomach, affecting both appearance and body function.
Umbilical hernias and diastasis recti are often related since both are caused by increased abdominal pressure. An umbilical hernia occurs when tissue or organs push through a weak spot in the abdominal wall near the navel.
A Modern and Gentle Solution
During surgery, we corrected both the diastasis recti and the umbilical hernia simultaneously. We used a minimal-invasive method, leaving small and discreet scars. For this patient, the scar was only 5 cm long and was placed discreetly near the intimate area and around the navel.
In some cases, we combine the procedure with removing a small amount of excess skin to achieve an even more aesthetic result—commonly referred to as a mini-tummy tuck. This is a popular method for patients seeking a natural and subtly enhanced appearance.
